KINGS 4 KEV.

Today I had a small game of Kings Of War as requested my my online pal KEV.

The armies were selected from the Kingdoms of Men and Undead lists and the rulebook was the second edition of Kings Of War.

The Undead get the first move.

A "speed bump" of ghouls precede the Revenant Cavalry.

Three "Horde" sized units form the bulk of the undead army.

More ghouls move around the flank.

The Necromancer uses a "surge" spell to move the Revenants a second time.

The men open fire at the advancing undead but neither cannon could hit a barn door.

Pike and shot await the enemy.

The valiant knights of Altdorfheim boldly advance.

Friar Wilhelm takes a hit from the necromancers dark magic and is now "wavering".

With a sickening crunch the knights ride the ghouls down.

But the demise of the ghouls allows the Revenant cavalry to charge home.

The infantry battle lines close.

As the knights soundly defeat the Revenant cavalry.

They then pivot to threaten the flank and rear of the undead lines.

A big scrum takes place in the middle of the field.

The horde of skeletons take nine hits.

The Revenant infantry then turn to face the knights.

While on the other flank the ghouls rout the crossbowmen with four casualties and a nerve test roll of eight for a total of twelve against a nerve rating of eleven.

The skellies cause casualties but fail to break their opponents.

The knights charge the Revenants but are hindered by the boggy ground.

Friar Wilhelm bravely confronts the ghouls in a desperate attempt to save the flank.

The arquebusiers attack the open flank of the Revenant horde but fail to break them.

The skeleton horde breaks!.

And the pikemen and halberdiers pivot to threaten the flank and rear of the undead.

The zombie horde pivots to face the halberdiers as the poor old Friar gets eaten by the ghouls.

The gun crew are in now in mortal danger as the halberdiers and the zombies get stuck in.

On the other flank the Revenants are attacked on three sides and finally overwhelmed.

The zombies manage to break the halberdiers!.

And the gunners are next on the menu for the ghouls.

The Altdorfheimer general realigns his remaining units.

The zombie steamroller hits the pike block.

The evil necromancer hurls a lightning bolt at the knights to rout them!, but the general bellows at them to stand (re-roll) and they hold firm.

The zombies score a miserable four hits on the pikemen out of thirty dice.

But the zombie steamroller rolls over the pike block and the general cannot hold them this time.

The hungry ghouls get their comeuppance from the arquebusiers who blast them with shot.

And the zombies finally meet their end at the hands of the knights.

A narrow victory for the bold men of Altdorfheim. If those knights had routed the foul undead would have certainly won.

A blummin' good game, it is some time since I have played Kings Of War and I did forget a few rules now and again but not enough to affect the outcome.

Quit painting, playing again

Well I couldn't keep the painting up, but I did manage to paint 156 28mm minis in a month or so. All of them are featured in this post in a couple of different games. I first had a game of Warhammer which I didn't photograph but then I got out the castle for a game of Warhammer Siege of which I took some shots at the end of the game.
Brettonians pretending to be Aquilonians and Empire as Nemedians in a follow up to the previous game.
Climbing onto to the walls is a dangerous pastime.
The battering ram couldn't quite get through the gate in time. The men mustn't have had their Weetabix for breakfast!.
They weren't helped by the defenders pouring boiling oil on their heads either!.
This time Conans men failed to take the castle by the end of turn seven.
 Next up Kings of War.
Perry Miniatures and GW make up the Empire army.
There are crossbows and spears awaiting the fray.
Mantic, GW and Reaper make up the Undead.
Ghosts wailing and moaning, not nice!.
 The necromancer and his undead.
 The wraiths defeat the pikemen.
Crunch!, the knights and the wights clash.
The revenants are finished of by a volley of crossbow bolts.

Getting in before the knights charge the ghouls get very lucky and rout them!.
Those damned wraiths attack the crossbowmen.
The knights defeat the wights, I'm a poet and didn't know it!.
 The Wights are Reaper Bones.
 Outflanking the wraiths.
The necromancer fired a magic lightning bolt at the victorious knights which scored one hit taking the total to nine. The nerve test totalled sixteen and the knights were routed, a lucky result that saved the game for the undead.
The swordsmen meet their doom.
Even this attack failed to kill them Wraiths and so the battle ended a draw.

Loved it though, I reckon Kings is a better game than Warhammer.
