Dragon Rampant in the Old World

I've been using some of my old Warhammer collection to play Dragon Rampant.

My collection doesn't really fit the six and twelve units sizes very well but it finally dawned on me that I could put whatever I like on a unit tray. I don't even need to clart about with figure removal if I use markers for losses.

A revelation.

Here's a few pics, some gameplay, others posed...

I had a canny little game, here is the Empire's Valiant Hero routing the Orc Boss.

And the Orc Shaman "Buggalugz" fails his Courage test.

A tough day for the Orcs!. Glory for the Empire!.

Warhammer in Tilea. Siege: the assault part two.

The assault on Castello Vincezzo continues...

The ghastly ghouls are attacking the brave halberdiers.

More foul necromancy as a new unit of skeletons rises from the battlefield.

Skeletons and zombies are beginning to overwhelm the defenders on this wall, with hands that big you could get a nasty slap!.

More and more undead climb onto the ramparts.

Then the gates are smashed apart!.

Malvolio is wounded but still fights on.

The struggle for the other wall continues.

But it's only going one way.

Skeletons pour through the smashed gates (the model gate got broken by the bairns years ago and had to be glued shut, my own fault for letting 5 year olds play with it).

Escaping to a tower, Malvolio and a couple of hand gunners fight on.

A desperate battle for another tower.

Skeletons reach the courtyard.

More skeletons outflank the spearmen defending the gate.

Somebody's knocking at the door. Somebody's ringin' the bell.

Then the nasty Count and Bruno Funesto arrive to claim the castle.

Massacre ensues.

The vampire Count was victorious and the scourge of undeath if unchecked would soon spread over the lands of the Principality of Pavona.

Guido del Monte and a handful of survivors escaped through a secret tunnel and gained refuge with the Priests of Morr.

Would the haggling, bickering Merchant Princes of Tilea ever wake up to the threat presented by the Count of Monte Drago?...

Warhammer in Tilea. Siege: the assault part one.

The Count of Monte Drago lost no time in assaulting the castle.

The undead surge towards the walls.

The handgunner's shooting and Malvolio's magic devastates this unit.

A battle between the magic users wounds the Empire priest Father Heinz Benz and an attempt to restore his own health goes fatally awry.

Handgunners despatch a pair of ghoulies.

But the wall is reached.

And the battering ram attacks the gate.

A good dollop of boiling oil does a lot of damage.

The men drop rocks as the skeletons climb up the ladders.

The skeleton leader has two attacks and kills his opponent.

Battling for the other wall.

Ghouls make it onto the wall with grappling hooks.

The undead have taken heavy losses despite the necromancers re-animating some with their foul magic.

The gate is still holding while the attackers have sustained many losses.

To be continued...

Warhammer in Tilea. Besieged!.

The flight from the undead was a nightmare, the undead weren't fast but they didn't rest under their unnatural blackened skies. Del Monte's troops were unable to rest for any length of time for as soon as they did Monte Drago's army caught them up.

Three days and two terrifying nights passed before  refuge was gained. The survivors stumbled into the castle of Monte Vincezzo an outpost of Del Monte's lands. The small garrison quickly tended to their needs while eyeing the Empire soldiers suspiciously.

Hot on their heels was the host of Count Drago who immediately surrounded and besieged the castle.

Del Monte's survivors were few, Ricco's men who bravely fought a rearguard were missing as were the Tilean pikemen and the dwarfs. Worst of all were the sightings of recently deceased comrades amidst the undead host.

The defenders are boiling up a drop of oil!.

They have stones to crack some skulls.

And some big rocks to make a mess of the attackers.

Handgunners and crossbows in the towers.

Knights and spearmen wait behind the gates.

In case the covered ram breaks through.

Skeletons and zombies are ready to scale the walls.

The assault on the castle will begin soon...
