Pike and Shotte

This week I have been playing some English Civil War games using "Pike and Shotte" rules. I had forgotten how much fun can be had with the "Black Powder" family of rules and intend to use them more often.

 It's been nice to get these old soldiers out again, I've had some of them nearly 40 years.

 I had a game of my Ancient rules with Later Seleucids and Poly Romans yesterday.

 Plenty of soldiers on the table.

 The rules worked very well again.

 The cavalry battle was fierce but the Seleucids eventually won it.

 A  very enjoyable afternoon. Seleucids won 13-10.

 At the Shildon show I bought this Conflix building.

 I needed an excuse to get it on the table. So I had a game of Pike and Shotte today.

 They fell foul of the Green coats and routed.

 I used the red counter to clearly show shaken units.

 Old Robins foot are disordered.

The Royalists fail to take the hill and with Cromwell winning on the flank and the other Royalist flank victorious but spent the victory goes to Parliament.

Pike and Shotte

I played an English Civil War battle today using Warlord Games Pike and Shotte rules.

I adapted their Thirty Years War scenario " Blood on the Danube " in which the army pay chest has to be defended until nightfall. In order to play this solo I selected 3 playing cards, Jack, Queen and King, shuffled them up so I didn't know which one was the King (the pay chest) and placed them under the three buildings in the Parliamentarian deployment area.

The Royalist then had eight turns to capture the money!.

 By this time many of the Royalist battalia were broken.

 The roundheads kept up a spirited defence.

The only building that the Royalists were able to capture didn't contain the pay chest. Hard to bear!.

I enjoyed the game, I'll try to get another soon.

English Civil War - new models with the old.

I haven't posted for a while but I have been busy. Here is a Parliamentarian general made from spare Warlord plastics.

 A Royalist general from Foundry, I've had him many years but never had a horse for him so I put him on a Warlord plastic one.
