Axis and Allies - War at Sea with 1/1200th models

This morning I spent an hour or so drawing a grid on the underside of the blue sheet that I use for my naval wargames. Now I can play the game in various scales.
I made the sectors six inch squares which made a standard War at Sea board to fit my 6x4 table. I can now fit my 1/1200th scale ships into the sectors, just!.
The 1/1800th scale ships that came with the game have much more room too.
More War at Sea models from the starter set.
And some more, I don't care much for the submarines base, though.
 1/1200th scale Musashi just fits.
 1/3000th scale models from Navwar.

The Graf Spee and a Tribal class destroyer, 1/3000th scale.
 HMS Hood, from Airfix.

HMS Suffolk and a Tribal class destroyer, 1/1200th scale.

I found that I could get the a copy of the stat cards on line from the Axis and Allies forumini, I'll put a link to it in the links section.

Hyborian Age Warhammer and Axis and Allies War at Sea

Aquilonians and Nemedians advancing to battle.
I am working on various modifications to Warhammer to suit my view of the Hyborian Age.
I do prefer less deep formations as is the norm in Warhammer, I suppose it's a throw back to the days when we played a lot of WRG Ancients 5th edition.
King Conan with the gold lion on his shield.
 The battle lines clash.
 Aquilonian longbows.

Conan and his knights charge home, he slays the Nemedian commander and the survivors scatter.
A very recent addition to my repertoire is Axis and Allies War at Sea.
I quite like these rules and the semi strategic feel of the battles being based around sectors.
The components of the starter set aren't bad but I may make a large board with larger sectors.

Hyborian HotT

I had a game of Hordes of the Things today set in the Hyborian Age.

The Nemedians have crossed the border and are about to cross the Valkia.
The Aquilonians deploy from their stronghold.
 The clash is imminent!.
Almost all of the minis are Games Workshop.
Blu-tacked onto to temporary 60x60mm bases.
The Nemedian general (Tarascus ?)  is victorious.
The Aquilonian general crossed the river in hot pursuit and returned to find his army defeated!.
Hard fighting and quite heroic but beaten.
The Nemedian magician (Xaltotun ?) did not contribute much to this victory, most of the pips being used to cross the river.
It's still there taunting me from the top of the wardrobe, see my last post.

Commands and Colors - more than a fad!.

It's about a year since I bought myself a copy of Memoir '44, it cost me nothing in a way as it was bought with a cashback gift card, so I thought it was worth trying it out.

Now I've never looked back and have played these games a heck of a lot over the last twelve months.
My collection since Christmas now consists of this...

Easy to set up, put away and store. I really enjoy the system, they give some interesting and exciting games that have a narrative that is very entertaining to me.

I decided that I would like to get hold of the Napoleonic game but it was very hard to find anyone who had it in stock. There were rumours of a reprint but no sign of it hitting the shops, anyway I found a copy and sent for it. Now I couldn't really justify the expense so it has to be put away for my birthday.

My lovely wife wrapped it and now I have to look at this everyday for months...

    Oh dear.

Toy style pre-Dreadnoughts.

After purchasing a sheet of balsa wood I surfed the net looking for ideas on making some battleship models.
I found many good ideas but the one I liked the most was by Jim Duncan, here is a link jim-duncan.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/cotton-wool-ball-battle.html, so I shamelessly copied him. Thanks Mr. Duncan.
Movement uses the templates in the picture above.
And shooting uses cotton wool balls thrown at a target template.

I chose to make British and Russian vessels. They aren't as good as Mr. Duncans though, he has far more artistic talent.
I gleaned as much as I could from his blog regarding the rules and had much fun lobbing the cotton wool around.
 HMS Thunder takes a hit!.
HMS Tempest steams ahead.

I intend to make some more ships in a couple of weeks.

More Pacific Ships.

 Musashi, Shinano and Yamato.
 Iowa, Enterprise and Missouri.

 USS Enterprise 1944 scheme.
The Musashi, I had to carve away many of the AA guns from the Yamato model.

I've still got the planes to do. Then I might get a game with them.

I could do with some lighter vessels.
