War and Conquest in the Holy Land

I had another very entertaining game of War and Conquest on Sunday using my Romans again. I didn't take any photos, I just concentrated on the game.

Today I had another small game set during the First Crusade...

 The Crusader Knights charge into the Ghulams.

 The other Knights attempt to drive off the Turkomans.

 The battle lines approach.

 The Syrian line as the first Crusader Knights crash home.

 Christian spearmen advance.

 The Syrian Ahdath, very old models they are some of the first I ever bought and painted when I was fifteen or sixteen!.

 Some more recent aquisitions, Irregular Miniatures.

 After breaking through and destroying the Ghulams the victorious Knights smash into the second line of Ghulams.

 However the other Knights are frustrated as the Turkomans use feigned flight to avoid melee while wearing down the Knights with arrows.

 They are now badly depleted.

 The Ahdath charge into the Crusader spearmen.

 With the aid of the Syrian general the second line of Ghulams defeat the other unit of Knights.

 The Ahdath are defeated by the Crusader spearmen.

 The Ahdath flee taking the archers with them.

 The Turkomans fall back once more from a last desperate charge by the remaining Knights.

 Isolated and very vulnerable!.

 Surrounded, the remaining Knights are destroyed by a storm of arrows.

 The Ahdath spearmen and the archers rally.

 Arab javelinmen prepare to hurl their missiles at the enemy.

The Crusader general is defeated.

A great game, fast and furious, the rules are excellent.

War and Conquest trial game

This is my first wargame of any size since surgery in October, I've been very busy at work and very tired as I lost a lot of fitness whilst on the sick. Days off have had hospital appointments and other times I just couldn't be bothered, but today I got to try out my new rules - War and Conquest...

 My Early Imperial Romans came to play in a civil war encounter.

 Eastern Legions form up.

 The Western army, the Emperor is used as an army standard.

 Having gained the strategic initiative the Eastern legiones surge forward.

 Slingers take the high ground.

 Auxilia, Irregular Miniatures.

 The Western army has great superiority in cavalry.

 Syrian archers await the onslaught.

 The Eastern CinC with the army standard behind him.

 Fierce fighting on the flank.

 The battlelines move closer.

 And then clash.

 Hard fighting on the hill.

 The western legio unit is routed and destroyed right in front of the general despite him using all of his SIPs (strategy intervention points) to bolster their morale!.

 The end.

The victorious general looks quite satisfied, having used his SIPs wisely.

A good game, I made a couple of mistakes but they didn't effect the outcome. I plan another battle tomorrow.

2014 looks set to have an ancients theme.

I've already played many of the CCA scenarios, great stuff!.

War & Conquest looks great too.

I'm much better now and looking forward to some good wargaming this year.

More Flames of War

 I roughly copied my Corgi 1/50th scale Tiger when I painted these Plastic Soldier Company 1/100th scale Tigers. I do need to get some transfers for my vehicles but I'll do that when they're all painted.

 A Revell Me 262.

 The Me 262 doesn't fit in with the Open Fire army lists but it will still see action from time to time.

 Tonight's game... No planes,  roughly equal points, I don't really like points values. Here's a German platoon with Tigers in support.

 Stugs and HQ occupy the church yard.

 Pak 40's and another infantry platoon on the right flank.

 British Shermans advance.

 Tally Ho!.

 More Shermans with US Paras in support.

 The Paras are especially tough fighters.

 The shooting starts.

 A Stug brews up and another is bailed out.

 The Brits are under fire.

 A British tank bails out.

 The Germans on the right dig in as they come under fire.

 The British tanks blaze away at the German positions.

 Oh dear, the new unit does badly on its first time out.

 Another Stug KO'd.

The Americans take the objective after a fierce close quarters fight. Game Over.

I'm really enjoying this Flames of War project, I've approached it in a none too serious manner with quick paint jobs, easy basing and a "Commando" comic book feel.

Off to hospital tomorrow, five hours of heart surgery, back in a couple of days.
