After repulsing the West Orclanders and occupying Khazdum the Baron of Boarwick decided to attack the stronghold of Gorbag the orc spellcaster.
A small force of men bolstered by skeleton spearmen from the Halls of the Dead blundered into Gorbag himself with a similar sized force.
Locksley bowmen and Boarwick spearmen advance to he beat of the drum.
As the footmen slog forward the knights sweep forward for glory.
And with a rattle of bones the undead arrive to aid their descendants.
The impetuosity of the knights may be an error.
Gorbag brings a giant onto the table.
The knights rough up the revenants but get flanked by the orcs.
The knights are disordered by the fight.
The orc archers get the worst of the missile exchange.
Merrylyn hits Gorbag with a sorcerous fireball wounding him.
The giant confronts the merry men of Locksley.
Gaining the initiative gives Merrylyn a chance and she takes it with both hands. Goodness gracious!, Gorbag dies in a great ball of fire.
But disaster soon strikes as the knights are broken by the flanking orcs. By now the game is technically unwinnable for the barons men as they need all four units to win. I trimmed the points back to 1500 without much thought to the scenario.
I decided to fight on and allow three units to win if they reach the orcs side of the table.
The giant takes a stinging volley of arrows and then proceeds to wipe the floor with the now not so merry men of Locksley.
The spearmen fail their activation to charge the giant and perhaps save the bowmen. Oh well, they are from a different parish and definitely smell worse.
And so the merry men are broken. The game is definitely unwinnable now.
A win for the West Orclanders means they occupy the Mages Tower (monastery) for the next campaign turn.It was a lot of fun, though I might use forces of about 2000 points for future battles. 1500 is not enough for this scenario and 2500+ is a lot to handle on my own.
